Apparel – Textiles: Increase in retail sales – decrease in exports

According to data of the Hellenic Fashion Industry Association, in the first four months of 2023, the increase in retail sales in the domestic market continued, while on the contrary, exports of the clothing – textile chain recorded a decline.

Retail sales of clothing in the domestic market recorded an increase of 23.6% and amounted to €848 million, in the first four months of 2023 from €686 million, in the corresponding period of 2022.

On the contrary, exports started negatively, with a decrease of 7.3%.

The total value of exports of the clothing – textile chain in the first four months of 2023 amounted to 735 million, while in 2022 it was €793 million.

Exports of clothing decreased by 11%, textiles by 7.1% and cotton by 2.2%. Imports also decreased by 3.6%. For the entire clothing-textile chain they amounted to €1.134 million in 2023, compared to €1.177 million in the first four months of 2022.

The decrease in textile imports was greater and amounted to 9.9%.
